Coyhaique, Condors And Mallin Colorado Ecolodge
We will sleep in a real Estancia Patagónica in middle of the pampa and in a rustic familiar ecolodge with amazing views over lake General Carrera. The experience implies a total immersion in the daily life of a cattle Estancia and of a mountain lodge.
To see condors in its natural habitat, experience a Patagonian lamb barbecue, visit the marble caves and get to know the threatened river Baker are some of the unique experiences that you will enjoy with us in Coyhaique and the close to the Northern Ice Fields.
Itinerary
Day 1: Transportation to Lake General Carrera
You will be welcomed at the Balmaceda Airport and then be driven for five hours to Lake General Carrera and the Mallin Colorado Ecolodge. Lunch will be provided on route and you will arrive in time for dinner at the lodge.
Day 2: Mallin Colorado hike
After breakfast we will go hiking or horsebackriding to the Mallin Colorado Lagoon. We will be ctraversing through amazing native forests of coigues, lengas and ñirre with open views of the emerald colored waters of Lake General Carrera surounded by high mountain ranges. We will continue on to see the glaciers of Cordón Contreras mountain range with its eternal snow in the back ground with Lake Bertrand. In the foreground. We will have lunch in the lodge, followed by a free afternoon to take shorter walks and enjoy the landscape.
Day 3: Marble Caves and the Baker River
After breakfast we will start a one-hour-drive North to visit the famous rock formations on the shores of Lake General Carrera called the Marble Caves. We will visit the peninsula of marble by boat and you will have the possibility to take close up photos of the sculptural marble formations reflected in the clear calypso waters of the lake. After the visit to this unique place, we will drive back to the lodge for lunch. After lunch we will drive South to see the Baker River and its confluence with the Nef River, making a short stop in the small village Puerto Bertrand on the shores of Lake Bertrand. We will overlook the river to see its rapids and appreciate the color and the power of Chile’s largest river, which is, threatened by the proposed construction of hydroelectric dams. After that, we will hike down a short path to the majestic point called La Confluencia, where the Baker River meets the Nef River and the Baker River’s emerald color changes for ever. We will come back to the lodge in the evening.
Day 4: Transportaion to Coyhaique and Estancia Punta del Monte
We will have an early departure to Coyhaique, lunch on the road and a short city tour. Evening arrival at Estancia Punta del Monte for dinner at home.
Day 5: Condor´s nests visit
We will wake up very early and before breakfast we willvgo up to the hills to visit the condor´s nest and observe them while they wake up in the morning. It is an amazing experience to view these huge birds at such close range. They are the national symbol of Chile. We will return to the lodge for a lamb barbecue and a free afternoon.
Day 6: Horsebackriding
Breakfast and a half day of horsebackriding through forests and pampas. In the afternoon you may take part in the typical activities of the Patagonian Estancia. Lunch and dinner will be served in the lodge.
Day 7: Transfer to the airport
After a good breakfast, transportation will be provided to the Balmaceda Airport (1/2 hour) for your flight.
