Puyuhuapi and Mallin Colorado

Visit one of the less known places in the world

enjoying virgin landscapes, green vegetation, emerald colored lakes and the Northern Ice Fields glaciers.

The whole area that you will visit with this tour is probably one of the most attractive places in Chile,m where you will visit lake General Carrera, river Baker, Queulat National Park and San Rafael Glacier. The Austral Road crosses one of the less populated areas in the world. The tour combines a program in Puyuhuapi Lodge and Spa with a stay in Mallin Colorado Ecolodge.

Itinerary

Day 1: Balmaceda – Lake General Carrera

After welcome in Balmaceda airport, we drive along the Carretera Austral in direction to the south, driving through valleys, forests, mountains and the shore of the enormous lake General Carrera. It will be a longer trip since we will stop many times along the road to take pictures. We will arrive in the evening to the lodge, reception and dinner in Mallin Colorado Ecolodge.

Day 2: Mallin Colorado hike

After breakfast we will go hiking or horsebackriding to Mallin Colorado Lagoon. We will be crossing amazing native forests of coigues, lengas and ñirre with open views to the emerald color waters of lake General Carrera and wide mountain ranges. We continue to see closer the glaciers of Cordón Contreras mountain range with eternal snow and lake Bertrand. We will have lunch in the lodge and free afternoon to make shorter walks and enjoy the landscape.

Day 3: Marble caves and River Baker

After breakfast we will start a one-hour-drive north to visit the famous rock formations on the surface of lake General Carrera called Marble Caves. A peninsula of marble that we will visit on a boat and you will have the possibility to take very close pictures to the impressive spectacle of marble in combination with the clear calipso waters of the lake. After the visit to this unique place, we drive back to the lodge for lunch. After lunch we will drive south to see river Baker and its confluence with river Nef, making a short stop in the small village Puerto Bertrand on the shores of lake Bertrand. We will visit the river on its rapids to appreciate the color and the power of this biggest river in Chile, threatened by the building of hydroelectrical dams. After that, we arrive to the mistic point called La Confluencia, where river Baker meets river Nef and its emerald color changes for ever. We will come back to the lodge in the evening.

Day 4: Driving from Mallin Colorado to Puyuhuapi lodge and Spa

We start our trip back to the airport early in the morning, to meet the goup and drive to Puyuhuapi Lodge and Spa, located northern of Coyhaique. After lunch, we continue along the scenic Austral Road to during five hours to the village of Puyuhuapi. Much of the trip is along a gravel road that passes through extraordinary landscapes of dense forests between mountains and cliffs. In the afternoon we arrive at the Lodge pier and then cross the Puyuhuapi Channel by motorboat in just 10 minutes. Lodging and dinner in the lodge.

We warmly welcome guests and invite them to experience the stunning wilderness of Chilean Patagonia, through different excursions in the Queulat National Park; to see the Hanging Glacier, a visit to the village of Puyuhuapi, and kayaking in Dorita Bay. After a day of exploration you can enjoy the benefits of the thermal waters and Spa. At night, we offer a Gourmet 5 course dinner, with a combination of products, tastes, textures and colors to try. A wonderful and unique gastronomic memory. At night, you must try the outside thermal pools in a place of natural beauty, under the Patagonian skies.

Day 6: Puyuhuapi - Laguna San Rafael - Chacabuco - Coyhaique

At 7:00 am we board the PATAGONIA EXPRESS catamaran and begin our journey through the austral fjords. The 7-hour route is a sheer delight to the senses: the transparency of the waters, the majesty of the Andes Mountains wrapped in lush forests, the play of light interwoven through the clouds, and sometimes... encounters with playful dolphins. Sailing through a number of channels, which leads us to the San Rafael Lagoon, home to a millenarian glacier. After a visit of 2 hours, we begin our return trip, arriving in Puerto Chacabuco around 10:30 p.m., where we will be transferred to the hotel in Puerto Chacabuco or Coyhaique.

After breakfast, we travel by bus along the route that follows the Simpson River, from Chacabuco or Coyhaique, and then continue on to the airport in Balmaceda (approx. 2 hrs.)
