Hiking tour in Mallin Colorado Ecolodge

Beauty can be appreciated in its pristine state on the Carretera Austral. Your will be part of a natural landscape, perhaps one of the places where nature is really virgin that left in the whole world.

We have developed every walking trail during the last 10 years in this area of Patagonia, considering different levels of difficulty for those beginners or expert walkers. We offer several trails for a full day walk or shorter walks as well, enjoying wonderful views to glaciers, forests, waterfalls or pampas.

Day by day itinerary:

Day 1: Santiago - Balmaceda - Mallin Colorado.

After welcome in Balmaceda airport, we start a 5-hours-drive along the Carretera Austral in direction to the south, driving through valleys, forests, mountains and the shore of the enormous lake General Carrera. Arriving to the lodge, reception and dinner in Mallin Colorado Ecolodge.

Day 2: Hiking in Mallín Colorado

After breakfast, we start our first walking day in the private property, getting to see lake General Carrera and lake Bertrand with its wonderful glaciers over Cordón Contreras. After lunch up the hill with an astonishing view from a very high point, you start walking back to the lodge. Birdwatching, photography and native flora are one of the attractions during the hiking. You will probably meet nobody during the whole day.

Day 3: Hiking in Natioanl Reserve Tamango

After breakfast we start a one hour drive to Cochrane, where you start another day walking in a National Reservation of huemules, the Chilean deer, which you can see in the park. In the afternoon, you will walk in Chacabuco Valley, a valley similar to the Argentinean pampas where you can see many guanacos around. After that, you go back to the lodge for dinner.

Day 4: Mallin Colorado – Hiking through valley and river Leones

After breakfast starts another full day walk along Leones valley and river. You will probably meet nobody again this day. But at the end of the walk you will arrive to Leones lake and glaciers, coming down from San Valentin Mount. Views, vegetations and fauna are very impressive in this undiscovered and not easy walk. The scenery of the glacier at the end of the lagoon is a highlight.

Day 5: Mallín Colorado – Hiking Puerto Guadal Fossils

After breakfast a whole day walk to a higher plateau located in a very close town called Puerto Guadal, where you can see thousands of shellfish and seefood fossils. From up there the view over the lake and the Northern Ice Fields is one of the best in Patagonia.

Day 6: Hiking in Mallín Colorado to lago Bertrand

After breakfast you start walking from your cabin in direction to lake Bertrand for about 4 hours until you arrive to the beach in a private and secluded spot, where a lamb barbecue (or other) awaits you for lunch. In the evening a short boat drive will take you back to the lodge. Farewell dinner in Mallin Colorado.

Day 7: Mallin Colorado - Balmaceda - Santiago

Breakfast and transfer to Balmaceda airport visiting the marble caves (for late departure flights) on the shores of lake General Carrera. Our program ends at Balmaceda airport where you take your connection flight.
